Resilience of microbial communities in Mediterranean soil after induced drought and manipulated <scp>UV</scp> radiation

چکیده

Enhanced UV radiation levels and decreased rainfall in Mediterranean terrestrial ecosystems due to climate change might impact soil bacterial communities, significantly altering their structure affecting biogeochemical cycles. The aim of this study was evaluate the effect UV-B UV-A on richness, abundance community composition a Lithic Dystroxerept shrubland determine whether these effects depend reduced and/or physicochemical properties. Soils were subjected long-term conditions: + exclusion (UV0 plots), (UVA or ambient exposure (UVAB combined with two regimes, natural (NR) (RR) rainfall. Barcoded amplicon 16S rRNA gene sequencing used analyse changes microbial diversity. did not affect richness diversity indexes only minor differences species observed. Unidentified Longimicrobiaceae appeared be greater UV0 plots than UVA UVAB, especially under rainfall, whereas members Pyrinomonadaceae Ktedonobacteraceae more abundant UVAB. Rainfall reduction resulted lower but higher (Shannon-Weiner InvSimpson indexes) exclusion. results pointed response communities treatments. However, small observed suggest high resilience microbiome projected conditions. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Resistance, resilience, and redundancy in microbial communities

Although it is generally accepted that plant community composition is key for predicting rates of ecosystem processes in the face of global change, microbial community composition is often ignored in ecosystem modeling. To address this issue, we review recent experiments and assess whether microbial community composition is resistant, resilient, or functionally redundant in response to four dif...

Resilience of Freshwater Communities of Small Microbial Eukaryotes Undergoing Severe Drought Events

Small and shallow aquatic ecosystems such as ponds and streams constitute a significant proportion of continental surface waters, especially in temperate zones. In comparison with bigger lakes and rivers, they harbor higher biodiversity but they also exhibit reduced buffering capacity face to environmental shifts, such that climate global change can affect them in a more drastic way. For instan...

Effect of elevated CO2 and drought on soil microbial communities associated with Andropogon gerardii.

Our understanding of the effects of elevated atmospheric CO2, singly and in combination with other environmental changes,on plant-soil interactions is incomplete. Elevated CO2 effects on C4 plants, though smaller than on C3 species, are mediated mostly via decreased stomatal conductance and thus water loss. Therefore, we characterized the interactive effect of elevated CO2 and drought on soil m...
